Frequently Asked Questions

What is a PADI Course Director? +

A PADI Course Director (CD) holds the highest teaching certification awarded by PADI, the world's largest recreational diving organisation. Course Directors are the only professionals qualified to train and certify new PADI Instructors through the Instructor Development Course (IDC). Fewer than 2% of PADI professionals reach Course Director level.

Who teaches the IDC at Deco Divers? +

Every IDC at Deco Divers is led personally by Ahmed Mamdouh, PADI Course Director and founder of Deco Divers. Candidates train directly with Ahmed throughout the entire programme — they are not handed off to a staff member at any point.

How long does the PADI IDC take? +

The Instructor Development Course at Deco Divers runs over 10 days, covering classroom theory, confined water teaching presentations, and open water scenarios. Upon completion, candidates sit the PADI Instructor Examination (IE) — a separate, independently assessed exam — to receive full PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor (OWSI) certification.

What are the prerequisites for the PADI IDC? +

To join the IDC you must hold PADI Assistant Instructor rating (or be a current Divemaster with PADI approval), have valid Emergency First Response (EFR) certification, and meet PADI's dive experience requirements. Contact Deco Divers to discuss your background and the right entry point.
